Welcome to Jamani!
Jamani is a Dutch foundation that supports and develops small scale initiatives in the field of education and entrepreneurship in Tanzania.
Jamani was founded in 2004 after Paul Flier en Marjolijn van Eijk returned from their first one-year mission to Bagamoyo. Jamani is supported by members and sponsors, a guaranteed 100% of whose contributions is spent on projects.
Activities and results
Bagamoyo Secondary School
The introduction of computer education at Bagamoyo Secondary School. Setting up a computer classroom, providing 14 computers and 300 copies of Jamani's Guide to Computers, getting the school's commitment to make computer education part of the standard curriculum.
ICT for Women Entrepreneurs
The introduction of computer education at a training centre for women entrepreneurs in Bagamoyo. Setting up a computer classroom and teach-yourself training program around Jamani's Guide to Computers, aiming to enable students to create a simple business plan and leaflet for their own enterprise.
Jamanis Guide to Computers
Development and printing of a practical and appropriate manual in English and Kiswahili for people without computer experience. Distribution by local partners of the first 20.000 copies into the educational and business sectors and among NGO's in Tanzania. Marian Secondary School Bagamoyo
Setting up a central display facility in the computer classroom of Marian Secondary School in Bagamoyo. Second activity: teaching the school teachers basic computer skills. In a recent government inspection, this school received the highest A-rating and attained full points in two Jamani-related fields: computer education and teacher development!
Local entrepreneurship
Supporting and promoting local business initiatives. Consultancy in the field of marketing and innovation; cooperating with an internet café, a painter, a craftsman making furniture, an agricultural entrepreneur, a beekeeping cooperative and a transport service start-up.

Jamani is a Swahili word that is perhaps best translated by HEY!. It is commonly used in situations in which one is surprised and calls other people to tell them about it. On the other hand it is also used by someone who does not want to be disturbed and tries to make this clear to others
